Monte de ORO
For a Natural Gesha this sublime Guatemalan stands out amongst many we've tried. Insanely floral with lovely pinks and orange notes.
This stunner reminds us of - Rose, Orange Creamsicle, and Cherry Blossom.
FARM
Monte de Oro traces its roots back to the El Socorro estate in Acatenango Valley, a 2,000+ hectare property that was divided among four heirs in the early 20th century. Fidel Meléndez named his portion “Monte de Oro” in recognition of its fertile soils, and under his son Ricardo the farm became dedicated to coffee. With each generation, the family introduced new varieties and techniques, steadily refining the focus on quality.
During the long Guatemalan civil war, Ericka Meléndez carried the farm forward, becoming one of the first women in the region to run a coffee estate successfully, ensuring Monte de Oro’s continuity through years of uncertainty. In 2008, the farm passed to her son, Mario Ricardo Alarcón Meléndez, who represents the fifth generation of this family's stewardship.
Today, Monte de Oro produces washed coffees alongside experiments in natural and honey processes, supported by recent wet mill investments. Though best known for Caturra, plantings of Gesha, Maracaturra and SL-28 signal a commitment to innovation.
We suggest letting the coffee rest for 2-3wks.
